What is OpenRole?

To put it simply? OpenRole is a private online casting/crewing database we’ve developed that aggregates a University’s upcoming theatre & film productions into one place. Students can then create expansive profiles and virtually apply for available roles.

OpenRole establishes a truly equal playing field for creative opportunities.

We aim to be a students’ go-to collaboration tool from their first day of college through their first steps in the industry.

Why is it Needed?

Film students have three primary goals - create a portfolio, build a network of collaborators, and gain professional employment.

Three problems stop them from achieving these goals:

  1. There’s no casting/crewing platform designed for collaboration within individual film/performing arts schools.

  2. There’s no casting/crewing platform designed for collaboration between film/performing arts schools.

  3. There is no service designed to connect entertainment industry graduates with employers.

How Does it Work?

Universities partner with us to provide this private service to their students.

  1. Students sign up & build their professional profiles (actor, crew or creator).

  2. Project creators post their projects and the roles they need to fill.

  3. Actors & crew submit for those available roles.
